Traits shape how Sims feel, behave and interact with the world. This guide covers every personality trait available in Create-a-Sim and shows which pack each trait comes from.

How Traits Work in The Sims 4

Young adult, adult and elder Sims can normally select three personality traits in Create-a-Sim. Teenagers begin with two, children have one and younger Sims use age-specific traits that are not included in this particular list.

  • Emotional: Influences a Sim’s moods and emotional reactions.
  • Hobby: Affects the activities and interests a Sim enjoys.
  • Lifestyle: Shapes routines, habits, beliefs and everyday behaviour.
  • Social: Influences relationships and interactions with other Sims.

Some traits are included with the Base Game, while others require an expansion pack or game pack. Traits added through free updates are labelled Base Game Update.

Choosing the Right Traits for Your Sim

The best traits depend on the personality, story and style of gameplay you have planned. You could create a loyal family Sim, an ambitious business owner, a chaotic cheater or a gloomy goth by combining three traits that support the character you want to play.
