It Started With One Question
What if the hero of a fantasy story was a mother trying to keep a baby and a young child alive?
That question became the beginning of Evermourne, a multi-generational fantasy series about motherhood, survival, found family and the choices that can reshape an entire world.
The Premise
Eighteen-year-old Faye has spent her life Travelling around the Evermourne forest, never staying anywhere for long but always with the same people. Including the love of her life Quinn.
When their settlement is attacked, she is forced to leave behind everything familiar. With a vulnerable baby and a traumatised young girl depending on her, Faye must travel through a deadly forest full of monsters, the kings knights and bandits all out for blood or coin.
Survival would already be difficult, but Evermourne is a world divided by poverty, segregation through species. In the world of Evermourne there are many different species which I have created, only a few can use mana (magic) but when that come back there will once again be mana conflicts across the country. As Faye encounters Fenriren, Bramble and Naska, as well as the villages with unquestionable poverty, she begins to question everything she has been taught about the beastfolk and mana.
Faye does not begin her journey as a warrior, ruler or chosen hero. She is a young healer attempting to keep two children alive. However, the decisions she makes could reach far beyond their survival and contribute to changes that will affect Evermourne for generations.
Meet Faye
At the beginning of Book One, Faye is an eighteen-year-old mother and survivor who has never considered herself heroic. She is compassionate, nurturing and fiercely protective, instinctively risking her own life to rescue a frightened young girl while already carrying her infant daughter to safety. She has practical knowledge gained from motherhood and life within a struggling settlement, but she is unprepared for the dangers of the world beyond it.
She wants to find Quinn, who she believes is in the clergy mountains, but she fears her baby or the child dying. Her knowledge of healing helps her protect the people in her care, although it cannot prepare her for every danger she will encounter.
Throughout the story, Faye must decide how to get to the Clergy mountains, that is her single destination.
The World of Evermourne
Evermourne is a fantasy world of ancient forests, isolated settlements, rival kingdoms and cultures divided by generations of fear and prejudice.
Humans share this world with Fenrathi, Eldahrim, Duergrin, Nymari, Ondari and other peoples, while mana, gods and dangerous forces influence lives in ways that are not always understood. All of these ‘species’ are based of basic fantasy creatures, Fenrathi are beastfolk people, Eldahrim are elves, Duergrin are dwarves, Nymari are fairies, and Ondari are mermaid/merfolk. They differ slightly which is why I made new names.
Book One introduces readers to different species that live in Evermourne, a deep history with world building at the core of the book, and characters that are relatable if anyone of us was in a fantasy book.
What is at Stake?
Faye’s immediate goal is simple: keep the children safe and find somewhere they can survive with Quinn. However, the king deliberately uses his knights to keep the people of Evermourne frightened and obedient. He allows them to terrorise vulnerable settlements, taking lives and enslaving people without fear of punishment. Every alliance carries a risk, and trusting the wrong person could cost Faye the lives of the children she has sworn to protect. If she fails, however, the consequences may reach much further than she realises.
