Entomology Skill Guide – The Sims 4

Skill Info

Entomology is introduced in Adventure Awaits and focuses on raising, studying, and collecting butterflies and moths. Sims start by raising caterpillars, then transfer butterflies or moths to a habitat to study them. The skill rewards careful observation, a Focused mood, and complements collection-based gameplay. Children, Teens, Young Adults, Adults, and Elders can build this skill.

How to Build the Entomology Skill

  1. Raise caterpillars
Buy the Flutteranium Caterpillar Incubator in Build/Buy, place it, then choose Start Raising a Caterpillar. Feed, view, and later read to the cocoon. When it emerges, transfer to a habitat for study.
  2. Study the habitat
Place the Gibbi Point Butterfly and Moth Habitat. Examine individual species to gain skill.
  3. Read skill books
Purchase Entomology books from a bookshelf or computer and read to level up more slowly.
  4. Use a computer
Web → Research → Entomology to gain a small amount of skill.
  5. Cross-pack builders
Interact with Bugs in Granite Falls (Outdoor Retreat), the Beebox (Seasons), and Insect Farms (Eco Lifestyle) to support bug-centric play.

Top Tips

  • Use the Notebook. Click your Sim’s Notebook, open Household Collections, and check Gibbi Point Butterflies and Moths for location hints for each species.
  • Care loop for fast XP. Feed the caterpillar, view the cocoon, then read to the cocoon before transfer. Repeat with a new species.
  • Time and place matter. Hunt butterflies in the day and moths after dark. Some species are tied to festivals or specific sub-areas in Gibbi Point.
  • Cross-skill synergy. Reach Papercraft level 2 to craft the Magical Origami Butterfly, then place it in the habitat to bring it to life.
  • Display and profit. Completed habitats make strong museum or school builds and are good for storytelling screenshots.
