Sims 4 mermaid with colourful tail and hair floating peacefully in the ocean

Mermaids – Guide – The Sims 4

If you’re craving an aquatic twist in your Sims 4 gameplay, mermaids are the perfect addition! Introduced in the Island Living expansion pack, mermaids come with magical powers, stunning visuals, and unique gameplay options.

Here’s everything you need to know – from becoming a mermaid to their hidden powers and even how to return to your land-loving life.

How to Become a Mermaid

There are two main ways to become a mermaid in The Sims 4:

1. Be Born a Mermaid

If one or both parents are mermaids, their child has a chance to inherit the mermaid occult. The trait is hidden until Teenage years, when they’ll gain their tail and powers. (Toddlers and children have no mermaid abilities.)

2. Use the Mermadic Kelp

This magical seaweed can be obtained by:

  • Exploring the cave in Mua Pel’am
  • Fishing (rare chance)
  • Buying from rewards store for 500 satisfaction points
  • Found while beachcombing

To transform:

  1. Have your Sim eat Mermadic Kelp
  2. Enter the ocean within 24 hours
  3. Boom – you’re now a mermaid!
