Self-Employed Career Guide

Want your Sim to be their own boss? With The Sims 4 base game, you can! From registering a custom career title to taking on structured freelance gigs, self-employment offers flexibility, creativity, and loads of storytelling fun.

How to Register as Self-Employed

Step 1: Open your Sim’s phone.
Step 2: Select the Business category.
Step 3: Choose Register with Ministry of Labor.
Step 4: Enter your own custom job title (e.g., “Freelance Writer,” “Independent Artist”) and description.

What it does:

  • Changes your Sim’s career from Unemployed to your chosen title.
  • No tasks, pay, or progression but perfect for role-playing, storytelling, and realism.

Freelance Career Path

If you want structured gigs and payments, join the Freelancer career:

Use phone or computer → Select Find a Job → Choose Freelancer.
Pick a specialization:

  • Freelance Writer articles, books, and copywriting.
  • Freelance Artist digital art, logos, and illustrations.
  • Freelance Programmer software, apps, and encryption.

Gigs are available through the computer. Each comes with tasks, deadlines, and payout.
Complete gigs → Earn Simoleons → Build your Sim’s reputation!

Tips for Self-Employed Success

  • Skill Development: Boost Writing, Painting, or Programming to unlock higher-paying gigs.
  • Time Management: Track deadlines carefully to avoid failed gigs.
  • Mood Matters: Keep your Sim happy and focused for better productivity.
  • Good Equipment: Invest in reliable computers, sketchpads, or work tools to avoid breakdowns mid-task!
